What if there was no music?????

September 21st 2008 01:14
Sometimes, the mind can lead you to funny thoughts.

As I don't have much to preoccupy my time, well, a lot of it is spent just thinking up weird scenarios, that if I ever got my act together, I might put to use in a story.

The scariest of thoughts occurred to me just then. And I'm talking scary....what if music didn't exist in this world??

The following things wouldn't happen:

1. There'd be no kick-ass soundtracks to tv and movies, and it would certainly make them less interesting. Can you imagine Veronica Mars without The Dandy Warhols or Star Wars without their signature tune...you know the one I'm talking about....

2. There'd be no karaoke bars for all the shower-singing tragics who can or cannot hold a tune when drunk, which invariably leads to less entertainment for the rest of us who don't have these people to laugh at - ahem, I mean enjoy.

3. There'd be no sporting team songs to induce a sense of loyalty, dedication, and a dose of in-your-face when your team actually wins.

4. There'd be no dancing, because you can't very well dance when there's no music. Think about it...no hip hop, funk, jazz, ballroom, square, line, ballet.........interpretative .....

5. What's a road trip without driving songs? .....Mind you, maybe that's a way to decrease our carbon foot-print on this planet if no one wanted to drive anywhere.

6. There'd be no need for FM radio. We'd only have AM and talkback.....which means that there would be more egotistical announcers who think they (and only they) have the answer to everything.

7. There would probably be more boring people like me with too much free time on their hands thinking up silly-hypothetical things.

8. There would be one less outlet for people to express their feelings, whether good or bad.

And the last one I'll say for now

9. There will be less work done by me because I have music on whenever I can, and I definitely work just that little bit faster with it.

Guess then that I'll really turn into a full time couch potato.

I can't imagine a world without music. I choose mine according to mood and what I'm doing. It makes a massive difference to so many parts of my life. And driving would be unbearable especially as I would probably end up singing and that could be scary to passengers.

Great post,

Tracy

Hi Tracy,

I didn't even think about the singing whilst driving thing! I'm quite partial to belting out a song at the top of my lungs, so yeah, could be traumatic for fellow passengers!!

Thanks for your thoughts!

I too like to sing at the top of my lungs while driving - so I need the music to drown me out as much as possible, for my own sake!

A world without music would be truly horrendous indeed.

I like that I'm in good company for my loud car singing, Mich. It would be a noisy car if we were in one together

May there never be a world without music for any of us,

OMG...a world without music will be like a life without chocolate, intimacy, pets...

Tracy, Michaelie...hear, hear to music in the car

Fab post!

Sheesh Lara, a world without chocolate... what kind of black imaginings are you harbouring in that mind of yours?

Trace, I think an in-car duo with the two of us could wind up causing all sorts of havoc on the roads! People sticking their heads our their windows wondering where all the noise is coming from, and crashing into phonebooths and the people who stand on the side of the road wearing Dominos pizza signs.

Yes, we could be a danger...but we'd have lots of fun!!

Definitely. Anyway, hitting those Dominos people would have to come under the heading of dangerous AND fun.

Yes, too much advertising is dangerous anyway. We'd just be doing a public service.

Popping over to yours now to read your latest delight

PS Hello again May

Hi all!

Hi Michaelie, I'm sure that as opposed to what you might think, you're probably a better singer than you think! It's all about delivery and attitude!

Perhaps all of us can create a more feminine version of the Wiggles driving in their red car singing along...

Hi Lara, I'm gonna have to remain neutral on your feelings about chocolate. I do like it, but can live without it....you can eat my share!

Hello again Tracy! Seems there's more music-philes (or is just closet car singers?) out there than we thought!

Have a nice day all!
