What do you get when you cross Chris Brown and Ne-Yo?

February 14th 2009 13:05
I am feeling annoyed with myself.

It’s a common feeling, one that usually stems from other peoples’ idiosyncratic behaviour. It’s not fair, really, when not only do I have to put up with my own pedantic tendencies, but to also factor in quirks from others? Too much!

Alas, this time, I only have myself to blame. Yes, I am annoyed at myself for being quite annoyingly obsessed with the Paramore song (STILL!) that I haven’t been able to bring myself to write about any other songs. Talk about one mindedness…and I thought females were supposed to be the experts in multi-tasking…

And so as I try to move away (for a very short time, mind you) from Paramore, I thought I’d share with you my thoughts on a recent song from an artist most definitely found at the other end of the scale.

Craig David. Remember him? The British, MC-ing, smooth soul-rnb singer who was soooooooo down with it way before Chris Brown? Well known for songs such as “Fill Me In”, “Seven Days” and “Walking Away”. Of course, all those songs were from his successful, self-title debut album. His second album didn’t achieve the same level of success, and so I’ve blacked it out from my memory.

He is back with a new song, “Insomnia”. It’s a charming little number, showcasing his fast MC-styled way of singing, as well as using the age-old technique to ensure audiences will remember the song - repetitive lyrics. Back in the day, he might have inspired Chris Brown…and maybe Ne-Yo. Now, the equation is more like Chris Brown “Forever” Ne-Yo “Closer” = Craig David “Insomnia”.

Check the answer for yourself.
