The Darkness.

Sorry guys, this post is not about the band The Darkness.
No, this is just about that timeless, ever-present entity that happens when the sun goes down, or when the lights are off.
Artistically, darkness is more than just black and shades of grey. How do you invoke darkness in music or movies? And why, dammnit, do I like dark songs so much when everyone who has read my posts (which given my stats is limited to a handful of people...but I digress) knows that I love boppy pop music??
Yes, my question today is: What is it about the dark that attracts people?
Is it the sex appeal that oozes out of a dark song?
Is it the unknown and enigmatic that keeps you wanting more?
Is it because everyone has a curiousity about what is only hinted at?
Prime example:
Come said the boy - Mondo Rock
An absolute cracker of an Aussie song, and good no matter when and where you listen to it. But it's so much better at night time.
Come to the dark side.
