Rock music: when I learnt to mosh
September 30th 2008 12:14
I have to admit that I never really got the hang of moshing...but I'm alright with the head-banging.
I can still recall the moment in class so many moons ago, when we were all meant to be quietly working individually on our assignments. My friend Joelle starts singing quietly to herself. My ears perk up, as they always do when I hear a song, and I try to see if I recognise it. To my surprise, I actually do....and when she gets to the part that I now, I happily join in with her.
"Well we don't need no one to tell us what to
Oh yes we're on the run and there's nothing you can do
So we don't need no one like you to tell us what to do!
Prisoner of society by The Living End.....
(I just need to give those words a moment to realise the weight of their influence on me)
....
(Ok, that should do it)
Joelle actually scowled at me and said, "Now, when I was singing that song a few months ago, you asked me what kind of a weird song it was!"
Ok..... so it took me a while to catch on. Better late than never, right?
