MayGrr!...“They all sound the same, don’t they?”

There is a particular phrase that is bandied about from time to time that irks the hell out of me:
“They all sound the same, don’t they?”
And there we have it people, another person who could’ve just said something innocuous like, “I don’t know their songs that well” or “I’m not familiar with them.” No, why not dig yourself a hole, and proclaim that the songs from a particular musician all sound the same – even though you’ve only heard one song?
Now, I’ve been accused of being pedantic, anal-retentive and sometimes (quite rudely) just plain annoying. But this is an issue I feel rather strongly about. It has nothing to do with the fact that the offending phrase was directed to my favourite band at the moment Paramore.
This is an incredibly impartial and objective post.
People need to learn that, just as it is rude to point or rude to talk with your mouth full, it is also rude to state that all the songs from any particular musician or artist sounds the same. If they had honestly sat there and listened to each and every one of the songs, and then proceeded to compare them to each other before reaching this conclusion, I would still disagree with them. However, I would respectfully acknowledge that their conclusion was drawn from thorough research.
I recognize that most people have other things going on in their lives as well, but that’s no reason to belittle any musician’s artistry. Every artist has their fans. Even just one. Somewhere in this expansive world.

I can see that in the case of Paramore, or many other artists, they might have a signature sound, or an element that is easily identifiable as being theirs, and that's ok.
I just got off on a tangent, because my mind can be a bit narrow sometimes, and when i hear people say things like "they all sound the same", i think "they all sound identical" which they don't. Sound the same as in similar, i'll allow though!
Just a segue, are you any good with Rock Band?? I've done Guitar Hero...and let's just say i'm not going to be listed as a high scorer anytime soon!

I never played Guitar Hero, but the Metallica edition sounds too good to pass up, so I'll definitely check that one out.

Some of the the blame should be put at the record companys door in the same way that nickleback even admit themselves that their playing the same kind of stuff.
But there is that same kind of sound pattern that is forming and its starting to head torwards the no doubt area before gwen staffani's head got over inflated by the arty farty types.
The WHO are a band that have definately got diversity to their catalogue eg "Can't Explain" to "mammas got a Squeeze box"

I was out visting a site one day a i was talking to some one who's wife left a enya cd in the player and he just threw it out of the window as he was driving along. He could of at least a the decency of buring it first lol
