Have people heard Duffy??
No seriously, have you heard Duffy??
This is not good for a blogger, but I'm speechless...I'm blown away...I'm also relatively easily excited about new music...
Ok, Duffy is a new Welsh singer literally taking the charts by storm. Her international debut single "Mercy" has already topped the UK charts on downloads alone. Said song is also generating buzz in the US and Australia where it will be released next.
A bit more about her...her full name is Aimee Anne Duffy, but takes her surname as her professional stage name. In my opinion, she actually reminds me of Dusty Springfield, but apparently, Duffy has not taken a liking to this comparison (on musical aspects alone, I thought that would've been a compliment!). She is a mere 23 years old, and is part of an emerging group of new female artists dubbed "The New Amy's (after Amy Winehouse). British artist Adele and Australian Gabrielle Cilmi also form part of this group.
Duffy was born and raised in Wales and also has a twin sister. She competed in the Welsh equivalent to Pop Idol but came runner up. She played in jazz clubs and got introduced to a manager who then got musicians to collaborate with her. Those musicians now form the backbone of her band.
I really really like her sound, her voice and the songs that she is producing. I guess it does have an "Amy" vibe to it, but I think all these supposed new "Amy's" each bring a uniqueness to their own music as well.
Right, so if in case you haven't heard or seen her, here's the US version of her video (which I happen to like more the the original version she did for the UK release...)
I hope everyone's toes are tapping and their fingers are clicking. I can't dance and I'm still bopping to this song...hmm, I shouldn't have admitted that...
