Comforting music - Someone So Much

March 20th 2009 11:09
There is too much music out there.

Some of it is so brilliantly inventive, it blows me away with its unique sound and leaves me struggling for words to try and describe it. Then there are songs that to the common music listener, such as myself with no music training, it sounds like any other song. Yet it still blows me away with its unique sound and leaves me struggling for words to try and describe it.

Bob Evans has released his new song “Someone So Much”. If people don’t know who Bob Evans is, then perhaps the name Kevin Mitchell might ring a few bells. Kevin Mitchell, of Perth band Jebediah, uses Bob Evans as a pseudonym to release his solo material. He has already garnered praise for his previous solo effort, Suburban Songbook, and is generating more attention with his latest song.

Goodnight Bullcreek
You were the world to me
Now you're just a well worn post code for the memories

I drove down your road
Searching for I don't know
I was hoping I might find
Something I'd left long behind

I stayed up all night thinking of ways to tell you
That my whole life I been here waiting for you
Now my heart is blind
And I'm losing my mind
When you love someone so much it hurts

Stuck in two minds
Under a starlit sky
With the pitter patter footsteps

Of the passers by
While I chose the road
The road less travelled by
And sometimes its dark and lonely
Living with all your if onlys
But the hardest part of it all
Aint the pictures hung in the hall
But the silent screed in the night
Turning out my broken light

I stayed up all night thinking of ways to tell you
That my whole life I been here waiting for you
Now my heart is blind
And I'm losing my mind
When you love someone so much it hurts

When you love someone so much
Really love someone so much
When you love someone so much it really hurrrr hurrrr hurts
When you love someone so much it hurts

The song invokes a very comfortable feeling. It is gravitating slightly to being sad, but sad in the way when you finally realize perhaps you need to let go of something that’s been a part of you. It’s a positive feeling that emanates from the sadness, and it feels right. As natural as the next step, as putting one foot in front of the other and walking the path that you have chosen.

Yes, this is getting laden with clichés, but all I’m trying to say is that this song is simply impossible not to like…but please don’t take that as an invitation to prove me wrong.
