Blood-freezing, glass breaking whistle registers.

I've decided that pop songs don't need the spine tingling notes performed, known as the whistle register. It's all fine and dandy for a musician to showcase their range, but honestly, I think it serves no purpose.
Let's look at a particular song that is routinely covered and performed: Lovin' You.
The original version was written and performed by the late Minnie Ripperton. And since then, many covers by female artists haven't strayed too far from the arrangement. Singers who have covered or performed the song include Shanice and Leona Lewis. I've also found a few versions covered by Chinese singers Cass Pang and Jane Zhang.
All of the above singers can hold a tune, have power in their voices and sure as hell sing a lot better than I do. But I've since discovered a version of the song by Korean duo As One, and that has become my favourite one. And you know what? Not a whistle note in sight...or is that hearing?
...I still love this song though.
