4EVA: Edwin McCain - I'll be
October 21st 2008 10:05
Ah yes...the joy of hearing a song that makes you swoon and dream hazily of that certain day when you walk down the aisle in a certain white dress, dancing your first dance with your life partner...yes, that's the song you want to be married to!
Ok, I'm nowhere near that particular step in life, but boy, does this song make me swoon...
I always say that you can never be sure of what will happen in the future. The rational part of me likes to think that if at any given point in your life, you feel that strongly about someone to profess to want to be with them for the rest of your life, then no matter how it turns out, that moment in history will never be changed.
The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
And emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth
And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love`s suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
And you're my survival, you're my living proof
My love is alive, and not dead
And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I`ll be love`s suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life.
And I dropped out, I burned up, I fought my way back from the dead,
I tuned in, I turned on, remembered the thing that you said.
And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love`s suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
I think the lyrics in the song are rather brave. To state that you want to be someone's fan for the rest of your life means you're putting them up on a pedastal, and in reality, that can spell disaster. People online have commented on the darkness to some of the lyrics, which to me only became evident after reading those comments (I was too distracted by the chorus to pay much attention to the verses I must admit!). I won't say much about that because everyone will take from it and see it however they want to.
I just want to enjoy the song.
